Position: Short Term Consultancy: Communications and Public Relations Expert
Reports to: Executive Director
Grading: Consultant
Duration: 4 months (July - October 2013)
Starting date: ASAP
Overall purpose of the job

To enhance ECPAT International’s global visibility and its capacity to implement communications and media strategies in support of its advocacy and campaigning work. The consultant will develop and implement communications plans, communication materials, and media strategies in collaboration with ECPAT Management and ECPAT Member groups.
Key responsibilities

Manage ECPAT media/ press relations
- Develop, plan and implement media strategies to enhance the positioning of ECPAT with the media;
- Identify opportunities and organize media events and press conferences around key ECPAT milestones, events or publications, and facilitate to prepare/brief those who will be representing ECPAT in such events;
- Issuance of statements to media and responses to media inquiries;
- Establish and maintain positive partnerships with key media outlets at all relevant levels.
Produce information materials;
- Draft and produce press releases, advisories, back ground information, brochures and media kits to inform media and general public;
- Identify effective channels for dissemination of all information products to relevant target audiences and supervise distribution, including through social media.
Provide advice and support to special events and campaigns
- Indentify, conceptualize and organize special events related to ECPAT and to child rights;
- Communicate events with ECPAT Member groups and ensure consistent and quality messaging throughout the Network.
Qualifications and Competencies
• Advanced university degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies or other related field.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant professional experience working in the fields of
communications, media, and public relations, including in NGO environments;
• Strong initiative taker;
• Interacts effectively with all levels of the organization and of the network;
• Ability to analyse information, evaluate options and take decisions strategically;
• Excellent interpersonal skills;
• Strong communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills in English and at least one other key language used in the ECPAT Network (Spanish, French);
• Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives;
• Ability to deliver high quality work under pressure and meet deadlines;
• Commitment to mission, vision, values and principles of ECPAT.
Consultancy Fee: Negotiable
