INTERPOL is the world’s largest international police organization, with 190 Member Countries. Created in 1923, it facilitates cross-border police co-operation, and supports and assists all organizations, authorities, and services whose mission is to prevent or combat international crime. INTERPOL is now looking for one qualified candidate as Project Assistant for the SCALE Project (combatting fisheries crime) within the Environmental Crime Programme which is part of the Public Safety and Terrorism Sub-Directorate.

The Project Assistant position under Project Scale (combatting fisheries crime) will perform a set of basic, administrative or technical tasks of a similar level in accordance with clear and detailed instructions. Tasks are assigned by the immediate superior, the Project Scale Team Leader, who monitors their completion. In turn, post holders inform their immediate superiors should they encounter any difficulties. The post holder will be a member of a team whose role is to make expertise available, develop and enhance partnerships with organizations dealing with global environmental crime issues, develop and coordinate best practices, and increase the flow and exchange of information related to environmental crime. Post holders may have contact with the Organization's staff and may have professional contact with people outside the Organization. In this context, they may be requested to obtain information needed to perform the tasks assigned them.
PRIMARY DUTIES
The Project Assistant will provide support to the following functions:
  1. Assist in maintaining an overall, global view of Environmental Crime Programme activities. This includes proactively seeking and collecting relevant intelligence and information from member countries, the private sector and other stakeholders;
  2. Assist in the processing of Environmental Crime Programme and Project Scale intelligence, outcomes of operational deployments and information received from member countries and disseminate correspondence as appropriate;
  3. Overseeing the preparation and diffusion of strategic and tactical reports;
  4. Liaise and co-ordinate with internal departments where issues require internal investigation, support or strategic follow-up, providing clear and impartial breakdowns of issues, reports on actions taken and future actions;
  5. Assist in the identifying, establishing, and maintaining contact with experts in the field;
  6.  Promoting international cooperation and networking within wildlife enforcement agencies;
  7. Acting as a point of reference for member countries requiring assistance or advice;
  8. Organizing training programmes, expert group meetings and conferences;
  9. Assisting the Project Scale Team Leader in developing remedies and best practice solutions to problems limiting the effectiveness of environmental law enforcement agencies;
  10. Performing all other duties as may be directed by the Environmental Crime Programme and the hierarchy.
REQUIREMENTS
All candidates will be assessed on the under mentioned requirements.
Training/Education required
• At least two years' University education in the administrative/secretarial area.
Languages
• Fluency in English is required:
Experience required
• At least two years' experience in the area in law enforcement and/or wildlife crime and/or project coordination between international government organizations.
• Experience in working with computers including knowledge of oral presentations software, business intelligence, word processing and financial or accounting software.
Specific skills required
• Strong communication skills, both in written and oral form.

• Proficiency in a second official working language of the Organization (Arabic, French or Spanish) or another language.
WORKING CONDITIONS
• Remuneration for appointment on contract: The starting salary for a grade 7 is EUR 2510 per month for a step 1.

• This post requires occasional travel on missions, sometimes of a long duration and at short notice.
• The incumbent will also be required to work occasional overtime based upon workload.
* The Organization plans to establish a Global Complex in Singapore at fall 2014.   Although no decisions have been made at this time as to which posts will be transferred to Singapore, acceptance of the post implies acceptance of a transfer to Singapore.
