Open Society Foundations Director, Afghanistan

The Middle East-North Africa Initiatives (MENA) is a program of the Open Society Foundations dedicated to exploring possibilities for developing civil society in the countries of the region. Reporting to the Associate Director of the Open Society Foundations, the Director will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategic vision for the Open Society Afghanistan office (OSA).
Qualifications include:
  • Advanced degree and Extensive knowledge of and experience with Afghan civil society actors across sectors and demonstrated background in OSF priority areas (Women’s rights, media, rule of law, transparency, peace and transition, and youth);
  • At least 8-10 years NGO management and coordination; Experience working with a board and strong financial management and organizational skills;
  • Fluency and excellent writing skills in English, as well as fluent written and spoken Dari or Pashto; proficiency in more than one local language is preferred.
