Professional Research Assistant, Center For Limnology, University Of Colorado Boulder


The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado Boulder has an opening for a professional research assistant within The Center for Limnology. The Center for Limnology conducts research on lakes, streams, and wetlands in Colorado. Field sampling is year-round, and analytical work is performed in the Center's laboratory facilities (located in the CIRES building, Boulder, Colorado). We seek to hire a Professional Research Assistant to help with lab and field projects. The start date for this position is flexible, but December or early January (2013) is preferred.

Primary duties associated with this position will include:
-Sample collection from lakes and streams, including driving to field sites; field days can be long, and occasional overnight travel may be required
-Laboratory analyses of environmental samples, including ion chromatography, spectrophotometry, fluorometry, elemental analysis, and microscopy
-Computer tasks, including data entry, web-site maintenance, and help with preparation of manuscripts, technical reports, and other documents
-Supervision and training of student employees

Minimum requirements for this position include:
-Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, environmental engineering, or a related field
-General knowledge of limnology and limnological sampling
-A valid driver's license, ability to swim, ability to lift 40 lbs, and experience with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

Other experience that is preferred, but not required for this position includes:
-Prior lab experience (esp. ion chromatography, spectrophotometry)
-Prior experience with limnological sampling
--Boating experience, including trailering
-Experience with relational database software, image analysis software, and Adobe Creative Suite (esp. Illustrator and Dreamweaver)
