Research Coordinator, Cloquet Forestry Center, University Of Minnesota


Required/Preferred Qualifications Required qualifications:
BS/BA in Natural Resources or closely related field.
Experience conducting ecological field research
Experience with lab safety protocols.
Experience working with GIS software

Preferred qualifications:
-MS in Natural Resources or related field
-Demonstrated organizational skills
-Demonstrated communication skills including successfully working in a team setting
-Current in First Aid/CPR training
-Excellent conflict management, problem solving and strategic management skills

Duties/Responsibilities
Management Responsibilities: Supervisor - Director of Operations
- Responsible for emergency response plan for facility. This includes developing a system for communicating emergencies, providing guidance and resources for on-site injuries, and writing up injury reports.
- Develops and implements a plan for coordinating facility use by visitors lodging at the facility.
- Prepares cost analysis of facility use. Reports findings and makes recommendations to CFC Director of Operations and Division Head.
- Collaborates with CFC Safety Coordinator to identify, eliminate, and control hazardous conditions in accordance with applicable State and Federal laws and University policy.
- Maintains documentation related to safety issues, i.e. accident reports, inspection reports and training logs in coordination with CFC Safety Coordinator.
- In coordination with CFC Safety Coordinator, develop and conduct periodic safety trainings for staff and researchers.
- Identify and contact potential contractors for facility projects.
- Assist in coordinating and maintaining centralized record system of short and long term research, forest management and other activities conducted on property.
- Maintain GIS database of the property.
- Snow removal for emergency purposes only.

Research Responsibilities:
- Assist Dr. Peter Reich and other scientists with data collection and maintenance of research on site.

Unit/Position Overview:
The Hubachek Wilderness Research Center (HWRC), adjacent to the Boundary Waters Canoe area in Ely, Minnesota, is an interdisciplinary facility focused on ecological and forestry research and education. It is part of the Cloquet Forestry Center (CFC) within the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences at the University of Minnesota.

The Research Coordinator will reside on the HWRC property and is primarily responsible for the management of the facility including the identification of new research and educational opportunities, all aspects of facility safety and compliance, preparation and maintenance of forest ecology research plots and working with principal investigators and educators to provide the resources necessary to successfully implement their programs at the HWRC.

Nature of Appointment:
PART-TIME (50%), 12-month (A-term), Academic Professional and Administrative (P&A) appointment, Coordinator, #9354, annually renewable (K-type); reappointment based on successful performance and availability of funding.
