Sustainability Institute Director, Willamette University


Willamette University is pleased to announce an open position for a Sustainability Institute Director. Under the supervision of Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Sustainability Institute Director will have primary responsibility for coordinating administrative, academic and communications efforts related to Zena Forest and Farm and the university's other ongoing programmatic commitments to sustainability.

Requires a high degree of interpersonal and communication skills to exchange information with others both inside and outside the University. Performance of responsibilities has a distinct impact upon the operations of the University and the Institute. Requires a high degree of interpersonal interaction with students and other internal affiliates as well as interaction with persons outside the organization.

This is a full-time, year round position. This position is eligible for the University's generous benefits package that includes: medical/dental insurance, sick and vacation accruals, contribution of 10% of gross base pay from the University in exchange for a mandatory contribution of 1% by the employee, tuition remission, and holidays. Salary is in the low to mid $50,000 dependent on experience and education.

The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following functions, which are not listed in any particular order of significance:

• Scheduling the Zena Forest and Farm site.
• Risk management oversight/training.
• Coordination of all activities to engage faculty and students with Zena Forest and Farm and maximize benefits of the resource.
• Developing a business plan, including a communications plan, for Zena Forest and Farm within the first 12 months of hire, in consultation with the SEC and others as necessary.
• Assisting with the development of the Sustainability Advisory Board's regular progress reports regarding established accountability metrics, including collecting and analyzing necessary data.
• Serving as liaison to all academic deans, the dean of Campus Life, individual academic departments and faculty members, and Facilities and Grounds staff to help develop and implement curricular and co-curricular sustainability programming and research.
• Managing sustainability grants and events.
• Managing publicity and promotion of events, activities and achievements in sustainability, in coordination with Marketing Communications.
• Maintaining, managing and coordinating content on various sustainability-related pages of the university's website.
• Supervising support staff and volunteers.
• Working with Advancement and Alumni Relations on sustainability-related fundraising and grant writing.
• Assisting faculty members with grant proposals with the assistance of the Office for Faculty Research and Resources (OFFRR).
• Serving on the university's Built Environment/Campus Greening Committee.
• Being responsible for other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Desired Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university required
2. Demonstrated expertise and experience in coordinating efforts around issues of sustainability, with preference for experience in a college and University setting.
3. Proficiency using standard desktop computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, web-design and presentation software.
4. Demonstrated experience and knowledge in risk management.
5. Demonstrated effective written, oral and and presentation skills.
6. Strong coordination and organizational skills necessary for successful program management.
7. Experience in program/event planning, publicizing, and coordination is required.
8. Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills.
9. Analytical and data analysis ability.
10. Ability to work independently and with good professional judgment, as well as establish and maintain harmonious relations with other staff, faculty and students.
11. Possess and maintains a valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the University's automobile insurance carrier.
12. Position is subject to successful clearance of a criminal conviction record check.
