Ecologist Aide/Resource Manager, Indiana Department Of Natural Resources

Purpose of Position/Summary:
-The incumbent serves as a field assistant to the Regional Ecologist, performing a variety of duties at all nature preserves within the region. These duties enable each nature preserve to remain in a healthy ecological condition with appropriate safe public access. These duties include invasive species control, prescribed burning, parking lot, trail and trail structure installation and maintenance, biological monitoring, trash and debris removal, and tool and equipment use and maintenance. According to the needs of the Division of Nature Preserves, this position can work between 975 hours and 1560 hours in a calendar year. All necessary equipment and training are provided by the Division.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
-Incumbent controls native and non-native invasive species, using a variety of techniques and equipment.
-Incumbent prepares for and participates in prescribed burns.
-Incumbent installs and maintains signs, parking lots, trails and trail structures.
-Incumbent utilizes and maintains a variety of power tools and equipment, including chain saws, herbicide applicators, mowers, brush cutters, ATVs, skid steer units, pickup trucks, post hole diggers, fire pumpers.
-Incumbent removes trash and debris.
-Incumbent repairs and maintains buildings, including barns, garages, and shelters.
-Incumbent conducts monitoring of rare species and biological controls

Job Requirements:
-Incumbent should have general knowledge of natural resource management.
-Incumbent should have the ability to do work in an outdoor environment, in all types of weather.
-Incumbent should have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
-Incumbent should have the ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with co-workers and other governmental employees and the general public.
-Incumbent should have the ability to work independently and provide self-motivation.
-Incumbent should have a current driver's license.
-Incumbent should have a working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of power tools and equipment.
-Incumbent should have the ability to perform basic carpentry and mechanical work.

-Incumbent reports to the Regional Ecologist
-Non-supervisory position
