Internship at Independent Diplomat

Internship Opportunity (Brussels office)
Independent Diplomat is seeking an intern for its Brussels office to assist with policy research and general administration.
Independent Diplomat (ID) is a unique non-profit venture in the world of international relations, diplomacy and conflict prevention. Staffed by former diplomats and other experts in international relations, ID offers independent and confidential advice and assistance on diplomatic technique and strategy to governments, international institutions, non-governmental organisations and political groups. Independent Diplomat has offices in New York, London, Brussels and Washington.
ID internships provide an excellent opportunity to be closely involved in a new and fast-growing international organisation working at the cutting edge of international affairs and diplomacy. Internships are voluntary and unpaid, but home to office travel expenses will be reimbursed.
Internship details
The internship will start on Monday March 3, 2014 for an agreed duration of four to six months. ID prefers that its interns are available to work during office hours five days a week. Independent Diplomat cannot provide visa sponsorship.
Successful candidates will have a strong knowledge and demonstrated interest in international affairs and diplomatic relations, especially the European Union and other international institutions. Above all, candidates should exhibit an enthusiasm for conflict prevention and resolution, as well as for the mission of Independent Diplomat more broadly.
Candidates must be willing to undertake a wide range of tasks, including political research, the production of reports and media summaries within tight deadlines, coordinating the calendar for the Brussels head of office, organising meetings and general administrative tasks. Previous office experience (either paid or other internships) is essential, as is the ability to fit in with a small and busy team working in an open-plan environment. Successful candidates will hold a relevant graduate degree, and preferably a relevant Masters degree. IT skills are required. Fluency in English is essential and other languages particularly French are an advantage.
