Job purpose and key deliverablesWe have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Principal Toxicologist  to join our Research and Development (R&D) function in London.

As a Principal Toxicologist you will be responsible for setting the strategy for science plans and risk management, to achieve business unit goals. You will also be ensuring that all ingredients and materials used on current and future products are acceptable from a toxicological perspective.

Key accountabilities:

  • Ensuring the scientific validity and transparency of evaluation processes 
  • Making sure that company’s products meet global regulatory standards 
  • Applying in depth knowledge of toxicology and analysis for developing strategy and science plans 
  • Driving effective and efficient management of the team in order to achieve key targets 
  • Planning- short /long term product strategy 
  • Providing toxicological training and coaching for team members in the areas of product design and scientific plans 
  • Providing directions and consultancy on toxicological studies to support innovation and development
Essential requirements

  • A BSc and MSc or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline 
  • Achieved status of registered Toxicologist (via the Society of Biology in the UK or equivalent if outside UK) 
  • Toxicological expertise preferably in pharmaceutical product research and development resulting in a thorough knowledge of product design, supporting science and strategic relevance 
  • Extensive scientific experience in R&D within Consumer Healthcare, Pharmaceutical, Tobacco, Food and/or Cosmetics Industry 
  • Maintains active awareness and understanding of toxicological developments and supporting science in the field of nicotine or pharmaceutical product innovation 
  •  Experience with the following regulations: Medicines Directives, Medical Device Directives, Packaging Regulations, REACH (EU), NICKNAS (Aus), and TSCA (general) 
  • Excellent communication/leadership skills 
  • A good understanding of the Principles of Toxicology and full awareness of current Product 
  • Experience in Risk Management 
  • Strong strategy, planning and project management skills 
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation communication skills
