Public Affairs Manager/Officer, ECTA

ECTA, the association representing over 100 pro-competitive telecommunications providers across the EU, is seeking a dynamic individual to join its regulatory and public policy team in Brussels as Public Affairs Manager/Officer.
The scope of the role will depend on the individual selected, but could include:
  • Driving ECTA’s relations with the European Parliament and potentially liaising also with other institutions
  • Develop and execute ECTA’s communications and PR strategy including the drafting of PR materials, with a focus on promoting competition in the telecoms sector
  • Potentially lead policy for the association on various regulatory issues (for example privacy and content online issues, data protection and IPR enforcement)
  • The preparation of notes, briefings and the development/coordination of policy positions including consensus building amongst ECTA’s members
  • Contributing to the arrangement of ECTA’s flagship events such as the annual ECTA Regulatory Conference.
The post will report to the Director of the Brussels Office. Requirements include:
  • First class written and verbal communications skills in English, and preferably proficiency in French. Other languages would be an asset
  • Extensive knowledge of the European institutions, profound knowledge of the EU legislative process and preferably established contacts in the relevant EU and/or national institutions
  • A clear understanding of and interest in competition policy and wider regulations applying to the electronic communications sector
  • Excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills and the ability to build relations with policy-makers as well as ECTA’s wide member-base of telecoms operators
  • A university degree, for instance in communication, political science, economics or law
  • Flexible and consensual approach and strong organisational skills – able to work well in a small team
  • Pro-active, able to work on own initiative
  • The ability to meet tight deadlines.
