Brush Fire Management and Awareness Consultant, Jamaica
We are seeking a Brush Fire Management and Awareness Consultant for the current four-year, $14 million USAID-funded Jamaica Rural Economy and Ecosystems Adapting to Climate cHange (Ja REEACH) project to protect rural lives, livelihoods and ecosystems in targeted Jamaican communities affected by climate change. The Ja REEACH project wishes to engage a support trainer to be a part of a two-person team of brush fire prevention and awareness consultants to deliver a fire prevention, awareness and brush fire management training to community groups. It is estimated that the consultants will make one 12-day trip to Jamaica to complete the assignment.
Responsibilities:
Finalize the drafted brush fire management training curriculum, material and training agenda in collaboration with the Ja REEACH project team and the Forestry Department.
Coordinate with the Ja REEACH project team on the required logistics and resources for the delivery of two three-day fire prevention workshops.
Deliver the two three-day fire prevention workshops in the eastern and western regions of Jamaica and prepare a final report.
Qualifications:
Professional work experience as a fire prevention and awareness education specialist with organizations such as the U.S. Forest Service, the Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management.
Four-year degree in teaching, public education, communication or other relevant field.
Knowledge of techniques for developing public education and training materials.
Experience developing fire prevention and awareness materials and instructing fire prevention and awareness training courses.
Previous work experience in Jamaica or the Caribbean region.
Experience collaborating with local partners, with particular emphasis on indigenous or local groups.
