Job Description
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy). The EMBL Hamburg Outstation at the DESY campus performs research in structural biology with specific emphasis on the use of synchrotron radiation. EMBL-Hamburg runs state of the art beamlines for macromolecular crystallography (MX) and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) at the high-brilliance storage ring PETRA III.

The local IT environment includes Linux servers and Linux, Windows and Macintosh desktops with about 100 local users. The successful candidate will participate in the administration of the heterogeneous infrastructure (network, security, storage/web/application/virtualization servers, databases, e-mail, directory services), develop and further improve IT services, support staff and visiting scientists (several hundred per year) in the use of the IT facilities of the Outstation. The candidate will work in a complex and demanding environment of international users and colleagues.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential skills: Minimum 3 years experience in management of a heterogeneous IT infrastructure, system management, software management. Training and/or several years experience in IT project work. Good knowledge of the English language and a service oriented attitude to the work. Good communication skills (both oral and writing skills are important).
