Google Search Appliance Specialist

Organizational Context

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is an International Financial Institution and a Specialized United Nations Agency whose mission is to enable poor rural people to overcome poverty. IFAD's headquarters is in Rome, Italy, and is present in more than 90 countries to develop and finance programmes and projects aimed at increasing agricultural productivity and incomes.




Division Context

IFAD's IT landscape contains document and content management systems based on SharePoint 2010 document management and records management system and Liferay 6.1 Content Management System, Outlook mail and windows desktop infrastructure as well as bespoke data repositories to serve the Organization specific needs. Within the context of the Foundation for Information and Records Management (FIRM) program, the proposed scope of work involves equipping IFAD's IT landscape with an Enterprise Search Facility based on Google Search Appliance (GSA), that will enable the user to search for IFAD documents and web content across divisional and IT system boundaries.




Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the FIRM programme manager-ICT, and in close collaboration with the Design Authority, the consultant will gather detailed business requirements related to the Enterprise Search Facility and draft related requirements documents. The consultant will be responsible for writing and updating the functional and test specifications for the system and also perform the developmental / configuration and testing work related to the Search Appliance.

The consultant will:

Consult with the stakeholders and user community to conduct detailed analysis of search use cases, and preform calculations of the required search volume.
Assist the project manager and stakeholders with the prioritization of those use cases
Perform an Information analyses including collection and analyses of data sources, data volume, accessibility and rights management.
Design the solution based on Google Search Appliance and perform technical evaluation of Solutions (Integration, Interfaces to Data Sources, etc.)
Develop Prototypes and Proof of Concepts
Perform GSA set up and integration
Test the system and analyse user behaviours in order to adjust the systems configuration parameters.
Assist with development/QA/production architecture requirements, cut-over and go live

The initial focus of the project will be on SharePoint and Liferay integration with Google Search Appliance. Later, other resources/ information repositories may be added.




Education

University degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Administration, Communications or related field

Knowledge and Experience

At least seven years of professional work experience in the analysis, implementation and support of enterprise-wide IT systems.
Proven and extensive experience using and working with Google Search Appliance in the context of enterprise projects as described above
Knowledge of Liferay Content Management and SharePoint 2010 Document Management will be a distinct advantage

Excellent communicator, ability to communicate the specified solution back to the client as well as to the technical/development team
