Msnbc.com/TODAY.com seeks a motivated, proactive writer/editor to join our health team. Candidates will be able to quickly write with knowledge and voice on a range of health topics, from the findings of complex medical studies to parenting issues to the mysteries of the human body and why we act the way we do. The right person for the job will have a bounty of fresh health and behavior ideas off the news of the day or what people are talking about on social media and write with an eye toward what readers want and need to know. Candidates will be quick, accurate, engaging, have strong sense of integrity and wit and will be comfortable writing about breaking news events as they unfold. The health writer/editor will surprise our readers with great storytelling and engaging articles as well as act as a sentinel to monitor medical studies, wires and other news. He or she must also be comfortable assigning stories and editing others’ work.
The position requires nimbleness, flexibility, an eagerness to experiment, deftness at multi-tasking and the ability to both work independently and together with a highly collaborative team.
Candidates must be proficient in using social media and AP style and be willing to offer fresh ideas and write sample news articles. Must have at least three years experience at a regional or national news outlet and provide links to published articles.
The writer/editor will work from New York City or from Redmond, Wash.
