Syndications Officer- Hong Kong, China

The Syndicated Loans and Management Department (CSL) is currently seeking a Syndications Officer in its Syndicated Loan Management Division (“CSLLM "). CSLLM manages a growing syndicated loan portfolio of approximately $12 billion representing 170 projects and working with over 170 financial institutions and development finance institutions (”DFI’s”). The portfolio has steadily increased in the past two years as a result of CSLLM’s broadened mandate which not only includes managing B Loans in portfolio but also Agented Parallel Loans with DFI’s. In particular, the division is responsible for any issues affecting IFC’s syndicated loan portfolio including: (i) fully understanding IFC’s contractual responsibilities to B Loan participants, and parallel lenders in our role as Administrative Agent and making decisions accordingly; (ii) managing restructuring approvals with B Loan participants and parallel lenders (iii) managing the consultation or consent process for all amendment or waiver requests with B Loan participants and/or parallel lenders; (iv) handling all participant/lender correspondence; (v) monitoring and distributing all financial and project information; (vi) providing middle office support for certain IFC Special Initiatives and (vi) ensuring smooth handling of all funding issues.

Duties and Accountabilities:

• Managing assigned syndicated loan portfolio by providing high-quality service to B Loan participants/ parallel lenders, on ongoing project work (amendments, waivers, restructurings, information transmission on key developments, responding to inquiries). • Ensuring contractual responsibilities with B Loan participants and parallel lenders are being met while at the same time managing relationships with B Loan participant/lender portfolio/credit officers. • Leading and contributing to restructuring efforts/negotiations on problem loans with B Lenders, providing Administrative Agent support for parallel lenders during restructurings. • Keeping abreast of regional/sector issues and monitoring market trends to anticipate potential impact on the portfolio. • Building strong relationships with B Loan participant banks/lenders as well as IFC counterparts in Global Industry, Regional Industry and Regional Departments, Special Operations, Legal and other areas (i.e., Insurance, Environment. Financial Operations). • Ensuring smooth transition from Syndications (CSLSY) to CSLLM at signing of deal and leading syndicated loan disbursements. • Participating in certain departmental or corporate initiatives as required.

Selection Criteria:

• M.B.A. (or equivalent master’s level degree) in finance or significant finance and accounting course work. • At least seven years of relevant work experience, preferably with a leading international bank, other financial institution, or in a relevant IFC Department. • Understanding of international credit structures and products, loan documentation, financial markets and international bank operations; project finance syndicated loan administrative agency knowledge very helpful. • Proactive, resourceful and self-motivated. • Strong team player. • Able to coordinate and build consensus, use tact and diplomacy in internal and external communications. • Clear, accurate articulation of issues, and problems with an ability to suggest solutions to help resolve impasses. • Able to manage multiple tasks concurrently, prioritize effectively and adhere to deadlines while always paying attention to details. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of Mandarin Chinese or other Asian languages useful but not required. • Position is based in Hong Kong.
