Organization:Migrant Forum in Asia (MFA)

Background:
Migrant Forum in Asia (MFA) is mobilizing international volunteers to assist in the organization of the 5th World Social Forum on Migration, which will take place in Manila, Philippines on November 26-30, 2012.
The World Social Forum on Migration is an event that falls in line with the World Social Forums (WSF). WSF is a space for democratic debate of ideas, reflection, formulation of proposals, exchange of experiences and articulation of social movements, networks, NGOs and other civil society organizations that are opposed to neoliberal globalization and the restriction of granting citizenship and civil rights, political, economic, social and cultural rights of migrants, displaced persons, refugees and stateless persons.
The 5th World Social Forum on Migration (WSFM) will be held in Manila, Philippines on 26-30 November 2012. This is the first WFSM that will take place in an Asian country as previous WSFMs were held in Europe and the Americas. The overall theme of the 2012 WSFM is “Mobility, Rights and Global Models: Looking for Alternatives” and the following are the sub- thematic areas:
1. Crisis, Critique and Consequences of Global Migration
2. Migrants Rights are Human Rights
3. Re-imagining migration proposing alternatives, exploring models
4. Resistance, Organization, Action

MFA is looking to build a team of highly motivated volunteers who seek to expand their international experience and contribute to the growing migrants’ rights movement. The team will assist MFA staff and the Philippine Working Group with planning, logistics, and the execution of this major international process.
Volunteers must be self-funded and willing to spend a considerable amount of time in Manila (4-6 months) working as key members of the volunteer team. MFA will be able to provide the following:
Coed Accommodations: dormitory style or twin sharing room
Meals allowance if needed
Local transportation for work related activities
Migrant Forum in Asia (MFA) is a membership network of migrant organizations, migrants’ rights advocates, trade unions, faith-based organizations, and individuals working to protect and promote the rights of migrant workers and members of their families. MFA currently has more than 200 members in 16 countries in Asia. Visit http://www.mfasia.org for more information.
