Adviser, Public Engagement in Science

Based London

£31,500 per annum plus London Market Allowance of £3,300 per annum.

The Science and Sustainability team is located in the Education and Society Strategic Business Unit of the British Council. The Adviser for Public Engagement in Science will be responsible for developing our work globally in the area of science communication and community engagement, especially linked to themes connected with sustainable development. This will include providing advice and support to teams across the British Council global network and Strategic Business Units (Arts, English, and Education and Society), with a particular focus on providing contacts and content for our work in the Schools, Higher Education, and Society programmes.

We are looking for an individual with the following attributes:

• PhD in the natural sciences and experience of engaging the public in science;
• Understanding and knowledge of UK initiatives to promote public engagement in science
• The ability to identify and develop strategic relationships with appropriate partners in the academic and public engagement communities;
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, and experience in using social media channels.
