The international Energy Research Centre (IERC) is a new, world-class, industry-led, collaborative centre of excellence established to drive commercially focused innovations in integrated energy systems.

The IERC brings together leading Irish and international companies and energy researchers with the aim of leveraging research, development and demonstration capabilities, leading to the market delivery of innovative energy systems and technologies. The Centre supports existing companies in Ireland, will encourage new companies into Ireland and facilitate the spin-out of technologies into new start-up companies. The Centre has been established with the support of the Irish Government, through a multi-million Euro investment and collaboration between four Government agencies – Enterprise Ireland, IDA Ireland, Science Foundation Ireland and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland.

The IERC is developing the infrastructure and ecosystem to allow industry and academia to undertake applied collaborative research and design, leading to exemplar demonstration projects and commercial systems development.

The IERC now wishes to recruit a Centre Director who is a leading international expert in integrated energy systems and who will, in consultation with the Board, develop, implement and manage the mission, vision, culture and strategic objectives of the IERC.

The person appointed will have strong industrial and commercial experience, a track record of commercialising research in the field of integrated energy systems and an excellent network of contacts in academia and industry. This position requires a person with the proven ability to work with a Board and a range of public and private sector stakeholders to deliver the IERC strategic objectives. The successful applicant will have the vision and drive to build an internationally acclaimed world-leading collaborative applied research centre. Applications are invited for this new appointment at the IERC, to be hosted at Tyndall National Institute, University College Cork, Ireland.
