Head of Programme Innovation and Development VSO Putney

The job

Working together with a highly-motivated team, you'll translate our new strategy into lasting, meaningful contribution to development practice and ultimately to improvements in the lives of poor and marginalised people. You'll work with our programmes and federation members to lead internal global processes that deliver quality, coherence and consistency across our programmes. You will create an environment for staff to be innovative, agile and flexible in responding to the changing global development context and champion our theory of change as a tried and tested development paradigm that brings real changes in people’s lives and communities. You will also create the ability for us to look and develop partnerships that enhance our work. Lastly, as part of the policy and programme effectiveness leadership team, you will be engaged with learning from other development practitioners and generally be a walking, talking embodiment of our values and vision.
You
You are a leader! A transformational leader who understands that for sustainable development to happen, people need to be at the centre, inspiring one another to action and to influence their own environment in a positive and sustainable way. You’re also an experienced senior manager who has successfully managed people and resources, cultivated and motivated individuals to be innovative and creative. You have excellent understanding of the development sector and the social-economic and political environment that organisations such as VSO are operating in and the challenges and opportunities that this presents. At a technical level, you are also someone who has clear expertise in your chosen role and what you do not have, you are agile and flexible and able to learn.

You need to be able to write technical policy papers as well as be able to do public speaking. You should probably know that in the current environment, you will also need to have your eye on the financial rollercoaster.
