Senior Associate Scientist - Project Coordination, IRRAS

Basic purpose Working closely with NARES in Bihar, India, the incumbent will take the lead in the CRS funded project “improved Rice-Based Rainfed Agricultural Systems in Bifar State, India (IRRAS)’ to develop efficient crop and natural resources management practices, help in linking knowledge exchange actors with an integrated adaptive research pipeline, develop appropriate farmer-centered knowledge materials, and facilitate knowledge exchange for generation and disseminating agronomic technologies to stallholder farmers in Bihar.
Roles and responsibilities In Coordination with the IRRI team, the candidate will help coordinate research on best agronomic practices for flood-prone and drought affected areas in Bihar, India


Specific activities include:


1. Develop and validate with NARES crop and natural resources management technologies for submerge-prone and drought affected lowlands in Bihar that enable higher and stable system productivity (40%)


2. Develop network of and effectively liaison with the universities, research institutions, state government officials, NGOs and CRS staffs for the carrying out the project work related with development, validation and up scaling of the technologies and capacity building. (20%)


3. Enable and facilitate access to suitable technologies, and ensure rapid dissemination, and develop appropriate system-based models to enhance farmers’ income. (20%)


4. Take lead in developing annual work plans, organizing project meetings/workshops and in reporting. (10%)


5. Prepare extensions information and training materials relevant to targeted clients, identify training needs and conduct and facilitate training. (10%)

6. All other related activities.
