The Role

At an exciting time of growth for the Animal Welfare and Research team at the Brooke we are looking for an individual to provide management and strategic direction to a small team of dedicated welfare specialists. The Senior Equine Behaviour and Welfare Adviser will ensure that high quality welfare and behaviour knowledge, training and capacity building is provided to Brooke’s Overseas Programmes as well as UK staff. This challenging role will play a key role in integrating principles of animal welfare, equine behaviour, humane handling and compassion building into all aspects of working with horses, mules and donkeys and the communities that depend on them. This will include some travel to support staff in overseas programmes.

Criteria

You will possess a higher degree (Masters or PhD) in Animal Welfare Science or a closely related discipline with experience of working with a variety of equids and an understanding of current methods of assessing animal welfare. In order to excel in this post you will need to have excellent inter-personal skills including sensitivity to a range of cultures and conditions. We are looking for someone who can inspire others to improve animal welfare and who can adapt animal welfare concepts to the varied challenging contexts in the countries where we work. The ability to speak one of the following languages is desirable: Amharic, Arabic, French, Hindi, Spanish or Urdu.
