WWF-Greater Mekong, Forest Coordinator

WWF-Greater Mekong is seeking to recruit a well-qualified and experienced candidate for the position of Forest Coordinator, based in Vientiane, Lao PDR. The Forest Coordinator provides strategic oversight and technical guidance to all Greater Mekong production forest-related (e.g. timber and forest fiber work) and restoration projects and initiatives. The Forest Coordinator manages all network and external funding streams for this work and actively develops these themes by identifying and facilitating strategic partnerships and funding opportunities. The Forest Coordinator is the senior technical advisor for the WWF-Greater Mekong’s engagement with the WWF-led Global Forest and Trade Network and provides strategic and technical advice to the regional Sustainable Rattan Production Programme.

Key requirements are:
● Master’s degree in Forestry or equivalent
● At least 5 years of relevant professional experience with a track record in the global forestry industry (ideally having experience in natural commercial tropical forest management)
● Proven experience as an effective manager working within a decentralized, multi-national network (or programme)
● Experience in Timber trade and forestry field operations
● Experience in sustainable forest management or community forest projects desirable
● Fully conversant with all aspects of forest certification, and ideally with hands on experience with the stepwise approach to responsible forest management
● Excellent knowledge of global forestry and conservation issues (e.g. policy, market trends, evolving issues)
● Experience of innovating, adapting and improving systems within a commercial or market related context to achieve strategic objectives
● Experience in partnership relations management, fundraising and marketing
● Familiarity of working with governments, aid agencies, and NGOs
● Fluency in written and spoken English and in Lao language is an advantage
● Proficiency in MS Office
