OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME : The overall objective of the Genetic Cancer Susceptibility Group (GCS) is the evaluation of inherited genetic factors in the etiology and outcome of cancer and the interaction between environmental factors and susceptibility genes. The Group, together with the Genetic Epidemiology Group (GEP) forms the interdisciplinary Section of Genetics (GEN).
Description of duties: Under the supervision of the GCS Group Head, the incumbent will: - undertake data processing of massively parallel sequencing data at IARC: adaptation of relevant bio-informatic algorithms to suit IARC's needs and apply them to sequencing data produced by the Agency; - undertake the management of IARC's high performance computing cluster (HPC): undertake the day-to-day management of analysis tasks performed on the HPC (Hewlett-Packard). Optimize HPC system performance and undertake management (storage and backup) of the genomics data. The incumbent is expected to liaise with IARC's information technology (ITS) group regarding issues relevant to the HPC; - liaise with IARC's research groups regarding massively parallel sequencing related projects: provide assistance to the IARC scientific groups regarding data formatting and provide assistance in tertiary analysis of genomics data; - contribute to writing grants with a view to attracting research funding from competitive sources.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Essential: University degree in bio-informatics. Desirable: PhD in a field related to bio-informatics and on research topic related to cancer.
Skills: Excellent knowledge of Linux/Unix based HPC and relevant informatic cluster management tools/job schedulers (such as LSF, Maui/Torque). Ability to design, optimize and implement semi-automated bioinformatic workflows for analysis of genomics based data (ideally sequencing data) and adapt them to a parallel computing environment when necessary. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team. Familiarity with the preparation of grant applications. Experience: Essential: At least one year of professional experience in the field of bio-informatics. Desirable: Experience in analysis pipelines related to massively parallel sequencing.
Languages: Good knowledge of English. Knowledge of French is an asset.
