Climate Change Officer - TAOU, Uganda

Trust For Africa’s orphans in partnership with TAO is implementing a three year agribusiness project for women heads of family through sunflower growing in Padar district. A comic relief funded project has received additional funding from Comic for a climate change project as a component of the current project.
TAOU is therefore seeking a suitable candidate for the post of climate change.
POSITION : Climate Change Officer
LOCATION : Puranga Sub county Padar district.
Reporting to the Agribusiness officer, and will be responsible for providing technical support on natural resources management particularly in the area of climate change and advocacy programming. The post holder is primarily responsible for providing leadership on mainstreaming Climate Change in the agribusiness for women heads of families’ project in Puranga Pader district.
Work relationship:
  • In addition to working under the direct supervision of the Agribusiness Officer, the Climate Change Officer will work collaboratively with the Project Extension Officers
Duties;
  • Provide technical  leadership on the implementation and evaluation of the Climate change component of the Comic Relief project.
  • Ensure timely implementation of all project initiatives and report back to all stakeholders
  • Facilitate the establishment of apiaries, tree planting and compost manure as key components of the project
  • Work with Extension workers to organize the women farmers groups and train them in beekeeping, tree planting and soil conservation
  • Engage civil society groups, government and other decision makers to act on issues of climate change
  • Continuously review the mainstreaming of climate change
  • considerations in project activities and reporting of success stories
  • As part of the advocacy component of the project-design of suitable IEC materials to educate and sensitize community members on the effects of climate
  • Identify and train community climate change agents
  • Establish and maintain regular contact with beneficiary groups whenever appropriate to ensure successful project progress

Requirement:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental conservation or a related field.
  • A Post graduate qualification in Project/ program design, development and management will be an added advantage.
  • At least two years' experience of working on climate change, or related environment issues, either in an NGO or the public or private sector.
  • At least two years' field-related project experience with proven skills in design, management, monitoring and evaluation and reporting.
  • Broad  knowledge  of  environment and   natural   resource management issues in Uganda particularly related to climate change.
  • A broad understanding of the various aspects of climate change adaptation, particularly frameworks, strategies and tools for implementation.
  • Strong analytical and report writing skills as well as excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Self-driven and able to deliver results with minimum supervision.
  • Willingness to travel extensively among the community and interact effectively with women heads of families.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team, and as part of a wider network, is essential.
  • The commitment and drive to achieve challenging goals; a problem-solving attitude is essential.
  • Highly proficient in Ms Word, Excel, Access, Power-point and the use of Internet for research.
  • Ability to speak fluently in Luo is very essential.
