External Communications/Resource Mobilization Specialist (Emergency), P4, Damascus, Syria

Purpose:
Under the guidance of the Representative, you will develop and administer an external communication strategy; ensure proper and timely reports are produced; engage as interface with national and international media, donors and natcoms as necessary; and in addition engage with communication colleagues requesting information in Regional office, Geneva and New York as required.
You will support the Office’s emergency response, you will ensure that quality reports and proposals are prepared for donor utilization, EMOPS, PFP and NATCOMs in order to facilitate the Offices fundraising efforts.  You will develop, track and implement a fundraising strategy to enable the quick mobilization of resources.
Profile:
To be considered suitable for this position you will possess:
•    Advanced university degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations; or equivalent professional work experience in the area of donor relations, combined with advanced university degree in a related discipline.  Eminent and up-to-date knowledge of new media fundraising.
• Eight (8) years progressively responsible professional work experience in communication, reporting at international and national levels and in Emergency situations
• Competencies in Communication, Working with People, Drive for Results, Relating and Networking, Persuading and Influencing, Planning and Organizing, Formulating Strategies and Concepts, Deciding and Initiating Action, Creating and Innovating
• Analytical, Negotiation/Liaison skills are an important asset.
In addition, you will require fundraising experience and the ability to work under pressure with thoroughness and attention to detail. Fluency in English and experience in proposal development with excellent writing skills and the advanced ability to provide accurate and concise briefs and reports for internal and external purposes are also required. The ability to work in international and multicultural environments, whilst maintaining good working relations with people of different cultures and nationalities are also essential. Knowledge of Arabic is an asset, previous UN/UNICEF experience in developing or middle income countries support to emergency response programme will be an asset.
