The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria is seeking two individuals for the position of Shipping Assistant in the General Services Office (GSO).

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications Required:

Items 1- 5 are ALL REQUIRED


1.
Education: Completion of secondary school is required.
2. Experience: Three years of progressively responsible logistics experience in the shipping field is required.
3. Language: English level IV (fluent) reading/writing/speaking is required. Level III (good working knowledge) of one other South African language is
required.
4. Knowledge:
- Good working knowledge of office administration and excellent computer skills are required.
- Excellent knowledge of sea and air shipment routing throughout the world and shipping and customs regulations is required.
5. Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to type at least 40 WPM.
- A valid South African driver’s license code 8 is required
.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite 2007 is required. (Word and Excel will be tested)

Job Specification

Basic Function of Position:

The incumbent instructs and facilitates the complete forwarding, clearing procedure of documents through South Africa Customs, Department of Foreign Affairs to finally orchestrate delivery of import/export shipments annually for 37 ICASS agents, for Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Pretoria. Ensure compliance with all South African Government (SAG) policies and Foreign Affairs Manuals (FAM) procedures as well as the regulations pertaining to other agencies for all import shipments, clear instructions is given within export instructions to International Bill of Lading (ITGBL). Maintains an extensive data base ILMS – Transportation Lite for all 5 dispatch agencies in USA and European Logistical Support Office (ELSO) Belgium. Maintains database for all ICASS counts, shipments inbound and outbound and diplomatic vehicles. Controls the consolidation of storage shipments to ELSO. Facilitates the registration and deregistration process of motor vehicles and the licensing process for all diplomatic vehicles.
