The position The GSMA is looking for an analyst for its GSMA Intelligence (GSMAi) business, to support and in some cases lead on reports focused on emerging markets, with specific emphasis on Mobile for Development and the wider mobile ecosystem. The ideal candidate will display a strong knowledge of the telecoms industry, with knowledge of the international development sector an added advantage. This person will contribute to and directly author reports. In addition and commensurate with experience, they would participate in internal and external presentations to stakeholders. Medium term, we would target the analyst to develop a reputation as an expert known throughout the GSMA and with visibility among key external stakeholders. The role demands a considerable level of self-discipline and self-management and would suit a highly-motivated and experienced professional looking to bolster and add value to an expanding team. Most of the outputs from this role would be published reports, so there is an excellent opportunity to enhance personal profile and reputation in the telecoms and wider TMT sector. The main duties are as follows: Functional • Support the end-to-end process on a variety of research reports covering emerging markets, with particular focus on Mobile for Development and mobile ecosystems. Direct leadership on select reports would also be involved • Ability to source and assimilate quantitative data, validate assumptions and provide meaningful analytical insights • Excellent knowledge of MS Excel and a sound understanding of other MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint and Outlook) • Liaise with internal clients on report structure, deliverables and presentation following publication • Actively engage with key members of the wider GSMA Intelligence team to drive synergies and collaboration • Support on presentations of key reports and a wider thought leadership agenda to internal clients and external stakeholders (including through meetings, conferences or other convenings) • While the focus would be on emerging markets, the candidate would have the opportunity to contribute to other GSMA research projects as required, working across a range of subject areas (e.g. Internet of Things, Future Networks, Mobile Commerce, Personal Data) • Support GSMA Intelligence’s vision to become the market intelligence powerhouse for the mobile industry Leadership • Lead the work of project teams on a case by case basis • Formally train/mentor less experienced staff 

Criteria 
Academic • Graduate with good degree, ideally in science, engineering or mathematics, but other subject areas will be considered Functional • Strong analytical and numeracy skills • Extremely proficient at Microsoft Excel • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Proficiency in a foreign language is an advantage (especially Spanish / French / Portuguese / Arabic / Mandarin) Interpersonal skills • Works well with team members • Willingness to work in results oriented team environment where priorities can change • Provides proactive support to team members • Ability to review and critique output of others • Ability to influence stakeholders and build consensus around an approach Domain expertise • Demonstrable expertise in the mobile telecoms market, with an understanding of key trends and players • Solid understanding of mobile networks, devices and services and their applications in other industry sectors (particularly the internet sector) • Knowledge and some experience of international development is an added advantage • Regional telecoms industry expertise is an advantage (especially Asia / Middle East / Americas) Behaviours • Highly organised individual with excellent attention to detail and a proactive attitude • Confident in dealing with a variety of customers (including senior management and external stakeholders) • Serves as best practice/quality resource within own discipline • Ability to manage own time effectively as well as that of others • Demonstrates individual high performance attributes
