MRC Network of Hubs for Trials Methodology Research

Locations across the UKIn an exciting development for clinical trials research in the UK, the MRC Network of Hubs for Trials Methodology Research is launching a new programme of PhD studentships to tackle important uncertainties and build research capacity. Applications from EU nationals are invited for places on this programme, at various locations across the UK.
Students will undertake one of the advertised projects, which have been chosen as strategic priority for trials methodology research. Applicants can apply for up to three projects, but a separate application must be submitted for each project applied for.
The MRC Network of Hubs for Trials Methodology Research is supported by the Medical Research Council, with a focus on improving health by improving trials. It comprises six Hubs, with bases in more than a dozen universities across the UK.
Studentship DescriptionSixteen projects have been prioritised in this first wave, and high calibre candidates will be funded to undertake these. In order to be short-listed for interviews, interested candidates must discuss their interest with the relevant PhD supervisor before submitting their application. Interviews will take place in London on 4 or 18 March 2014.
Full details on each project, including a summary of the project, and the supervisor’s contact details, and how to apply are available at www.methodologyhubs.mrc.ac.uk
Projects are non-transferable and can only be undertaken with the named supervisors at the host institution listed. Opportunities are available at the following institutions:
Bangor University
University of Manchester
University of Bristol
University of Oxford
University of Cambridge
Queen’s University Belfast
Lancaster University
University College London
University of Liverpool
University of Ulster
London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
All projects are suitable for non-clinical candidates and these non-clinical PhD studentships include a stipend of£19,726 per year for projects in London, and £17,726 per year for projects elsewhere. Two of the projects have been identified as suitable for clinical fellows, and salaries at appropriate levels are available should these projects be awarded to clinical candidates. Funding is available for up to four years for non clinical projects, and up to three years for clinical project.
Interested candidates must discuss the project with the relevant supervisor before submitting an application and the deadline for doing so is 24 January 2014.
All applications must be submitted to the MRC Network of Hubs for Trials Methodology Research directly. Please do not apply to individual institutions.
Applications should consist of a CV and a cover letter clearly detailing which project you are applying for and why. Clinical candidates must state how this application fits within their clinical training and career plans.
Applicants can apply for up to three projects but must email a separate application (CV and cover letter) for each project.
Applications must be submitted by email to enquiries@methodologyhubs.mrc.ac.uk via the 'Apply' button below, no later than noon (GMT) 31 January 2014. Late applications will not be considered.
