Senior Grant Writer

The International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) is an international non-profit organization specializing in the field of transitional justice. ICTJ works to help societies in transition address legacies of massive human rights violations and build civic trust in state institutions as protectors of human rights.

PRIMARY FUNCTION/PURPOSE:

The Senior Grant Writer will assist the Development Unit (in New York and Brussels) primarily by taking a leadership role in preparing funding proposals and donor reports in support of ICTJ’ programs. This position is based in New York.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work with Development and ICTJ program staff to develop proposals for general and project-related support, and report on achievement of program and project goals.
  2. Prepare proposals and reports to foundations, international government donor agencies, multi-lateral agencies, and others as needed.
  3. Work with staff on preparation of budgets and financial reports and supplementary materials for proposals and reports to funders.
  4. Strengthen, systematize, and maintain research and record-keeping, including computer records, prospect files, and donor profiles.
  5. Assist with other grant development projects as needed.


Qualifications


POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor of Arts degree required. Advanced studies are desirable.

Experience: Minimum of eight years fundraising experience or similar skills exhibited in a programmatic role at the international level.

Related Skills or Knowledge: Experience with complex government and private foundation proposal development is required. Experience developing financial budgets, as well as working with design, monitoring and evaluation (DM&E) systems and logic frameworks is necessary. Superior writing, proofreading, and editing, as well as oral and written communication skills are necessary. Exceptional interpersonal skills: must be able to explain complex issues to the public and communicate effectively with people from other cultures. Ability to work independently and in a flexible environment; balance multiple priorities, meet strict deadlines and deliverables. Must have strong research and analytical skills as well as the ability to solve problems and exercise good judgment. Interest in human rights issues and world affairs as well as fluency in a foreign language are highly desirable. Advanced knowledge of MS Office, Raiser’s Edge and other fundraising databases highly desirable. Previous experience working with NGOs preferred.
