The Clinical Research Department (Faculty of Infectious and Tropical Diseases) is seeking to make a senior clinical appointment in infectious diseases and tropical medicine. The successful candidate will direct the new East African Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (EADTM&H) course, the first such diploma course to be taught in tropical Africa. The EADTM&H is a collaboration between LSHTM, Kilimanjaro Christian University Medical College, Makerere University, Johns Hopkins University and the University of Washington. As the Course Director, the post holder will take strategic decisions on the direction and content of the course; will coordinate the teaching activities, which will be delivered by staff from all partner institutions, and will be responsible for overseeing the course budget. The course takes place in East Africa (currently Tanzania and Uganda), and the post holder will be required to travel to the East African sites during the course. The successful post holder will have a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in infectious diseases and/or tropical medicine; experience of clinical medicine in the developing world; a strong commitment to, and experience of, developing postgraduate teaching of tropical medicine in resource limited settings; and ideally, experience of research in tropical medicine or international public health. The post provides an opportunity to be involved in the exciting development and growth in teaching activities within the Faculty as well as taking an active role in other teaching programmes at the School.

This is a part-time position (at 0.3 FTE) with a salary on the Clinical Academic scale of £51,943 - £72,536 per annum inclusive pro rata (without honorary consultant contract) or £76,755 - £86,080 (with honorary consultant contract) and is based at LSHTM (London). The post is available from 1st August 2012 and will be for 5 years in the first instance.
