GRM is currently bidding for a Public Health Program in Nigeria funded by a major donor. The objective of this program is to improve access to maternal and child health services in Northern Nigeria.

We are looking for a Team Leader / Programme Manager to support this program. You will ideally demonstrate the following:

  • A postgraduate degree in public health and at least 10 years progressive experience in public health
  • A development practitioner with good experiential knowledge of public health management challenges in Northern Nigeria, particularly in the areas of maternal and child health, as well as health policy including a robust understanding of the institutional landscape governing the administration of health systems in Nigeria.
  • A thorough understanding of the challenges of institutional strengthening of middle level health education constituency in Nigeria in terms of health technology, nursing and midwifery, as well as Community Health Education workers, as well as the regulatory agencies that shapes their accreditation and licensing in Nigeria.
  • A broad understanding of wider poverty and development challenges in Nigeria, especially the disproportional nature of Human Development indicators between the north and the south of Nigeria
  • Perceptive understanding political economy of Nigeria and a good understanding of threats and opportunities shaped largely by a combination of cultural and religious and political inhibitions
  • Programme Management and leadership experience will be essential, including ability to lead and deliver a large project with state offices in Northern Nigeria and ability to deliver in a multi-disciplinary team context
  • A robust understanding of gender dimensions to public health challenges in Nigeria and opportunities to improve access to maternal and child health services in Northern Nigeria.
