UN WOMEN: ECONOMIC ANALYST CONSULTANT

UN Women's economic empowerment section focuses on three principal work streams that promote gender equality and women's empowerment and thus foster inclusive growth and sustainable development. These are: macroeconomic and public policy; trade and sustainable development and employment, social protection and migration for work. In doing so, UN Women works with a variety of stakeholders and other UN agencies to support the national level analysis and policy diagnostics and link these to regional and global processes as appropriate. Under the overall guidance of the Section Chief and the direct supervision of the Economic Advisors, the incumbent will research and analyze issues and developments in economic empowerment, and contribute to the effective implementation of the Division's work programme.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Produce a database on evidence and good practice on women's economic empowerment
  • Collect data and good practices on local and migrant domestic workers and on women migrant workers
  • Collect data and good practices on employment generation for women, enhanced economic opportunity and employment related social protection
  • Produce key messages and briefs on domestic workers, women migrant workers,
  • Produce key messages and briefs on the impact of the crisis on women's employment
  • Map UN Women's work on employment and entrepreneurship
  • Map out UN Women's work rural women's economic empowerment
  • Document and compile good practices across regions in promoting rural women's economic empowerment, including their access to land and other productive assets
  • Document good practices across regions in promoting women's access to water
  • Map out UN Women's past and present work on gender and trade and strategic partnership built
  • Document resolutions and references made in intergovernmental processes in relation to rural women

FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES

  • Substantive knowledge of and experience with gender analysis and gender mainstreaming, women economic empowerment issues and related intergovernmental processes.
  • Ability to undertake policy research and prepare quantitative studies, utilizing statistical methodologies, and database applications. Ability to integrate knowledge into strategic and policy frameworks.
  • Familiarity with and understanding of Programme Development and Results-Based Management including Monitoring and Evaluation.
  • Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks by establishing priorities, to handle a large volume of work possibly under time constraints and to work independently and exercise good judgment in a stressful environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and operate effectively across thematic areas and organizational boundaries.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Minimum of Master's degree or equivalent in Economics, Statistics, gender studies, development studies or other related disciplines.


Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in programme work and policy research at a national or international level including the preparation of quantitative studies and analysis. Experience with UN highly desirable.


Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in another UN working language is desirable.
