Livelihoods and Food Security Programme Manager, Niger

£24,245 - £30,853 + competitive benefit package

West Africa

Low rainfall, poor harvests, high food prices and a lack of pasture are all causing serious problems across the West African region. And with the aim to find lasting solutions to poverty, Oxfam is working hard to make sure this doesn’t lead to a serious food crisis. Putting plans into action, you’ll have a key part to play.

The role

Supporting our Associate Country Director, you’ll put in place the long-term strategy for our Livelihoods and Food Security programmes inWest Africaand ensure a strong integration between humanitarian programmes and long-term development programmes in collaboration with the humanitarian team. We’ll expect you to help design and develop the country and regional programme, take full responsibility for its implementation, and monitor and evaluate the ongoing progress. It means you’ll be involved in everything from hands-on programme action and research work, right through to high-level advocacy and lobbying – driving gender equity in all aspects of the programme. You’ll also handle the budget and manage relationships with our key donors, government officials and other affiliates. And as well as making sure information is shared across Oxfam and our partners, you’ll produce reports that help us raise funds and make us accountable to our donors. After all, it’s the partnerships you build that will have a crucial part to play in making a real difference to the lives of those in need.

What we’re looking for

A natural leader, you’ll have a proven ability to manage teams to achieve strategic objectives. And with experience in multi-disciplinary programme development and implementation, you’ll have an understanding of how to plan projects and get the most out of all your resources. You’ll also know all about managing donor contracts and relationships, so you will have worked for an NGO before. That might be where you’ve gained your ability to be flexible and adaptable in a high-risk environment – and honed your knowledge of the livelihood and food security policy issues faced by the people ofWest Africa.
