PROJECT DIRECTOR - COTE D'IVOIRE

Position Summary
The Project Director will be responsible for leading all areas of program management including strategic design and implementation, financial management, staff supervision, office management, communications, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. Furthermore, the Project Director will be responsible for donor relations, advocacy, and fundraising. This position is based in Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire and will report to the Director for Africa programs. This position is contingent upon funding.

Some Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement programs to support civil society and human rights in challenging environments
  • Provide general oversight of the programs
  • Represent Freedom House before funding organizations as well as identify new funding sources for the program
  • Assume ultimate responsibility of the daily operations of the office, which includes but is not limited to: financial management, management of sub-grants, general office administration, monitoring of reports and program evaluation of all programs for which the office is responsible
  • Network and liaise with members of governments, civil society organizations, international and regional bodies, and private funders
  • Travel as needed to regional project sites within in the region for project management and monitoring purposes
  • Other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, law, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • 6 - 8 years of experience with democracy and human rights programs with expertise in transitional justice, documentation of human rights abuses and advocacy
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively in French
  • Substantial experience with project development and management
  • Substantial experience administering grants
  • Knowledge of USG rules and regulations, and the ability to manage and prioritize multi-donor fundingExperience with financial management including preparing and managing budgets, banking activities, contracts and negotiations
  • Strong ability to effectively manage a diverse team of employees, including expatriate and local staff
  • Experience developing project proposals for the U.S. Agency for International Development, Department of State, European human rights institutions and private donor organizations
