Project Director, Pakistan

9 Month Contract
BBC Media Action is the independent international charity of the BBC which uses media to advance development worldwide. Our mission is to improve the quality of people’s lives in developing and transitional countries through innovative use of media. We do this through our focus on health, governance, livelihoods, climate change and humanitarian response. We facilitate this through partnerships that include governments, broadcasters, civil society institutions, donor agencies and international Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). As Project Director, Pakistan, based in London, you will deliver TV and radio programmes in Pakistan prior to forthcoming elections which aim to stimulate public debate and discussion.
As Project Director, Pakistan, you will lead the delivery of the DFID Global Grant Pakistan project for 2012/2013. Therefore, you’ll take responsibility for management of all aspects of TV and radio productions, including editorial relations with BBC Urdu, which will take editorial lead and final approval for weekly debates and radio programmes. Indeed, you will work very closely with BBC Urdu in order to recruit and lead a team with the capability to produce high quality TV debate and discussion. Importantly, you’ll also forge and manage relations with partners in Pakistan, part of which will include ensuring efficient distribution of our radio programmes. Ultimately, you’ll provide the strong leadership, drive and expertise to ensure successful delivery of TV and radio output and this will involve international travel to Pakistan.
You’ll bring a proven record as a relevant programme maker, displaying good practical experience of the mechanics of television and radio. Within this, you’ll show evident flair and technical ability to oversee high quality programmes, alongside a proven ability to generate quality content ideas. Naturally, you’ll align these skills to your excellent awareness of our target audiences and their needs, showing ability to deliver in culturally, politically or conflict sensitive environments. Complimenting this will be your strong track record of balancing editorial ambition against financial constraints and therefore, you’ll be used to delivering programmes to time and within changing budgets. This will be evident as part of your overall ability to manage multiple facets of complex projects.
