Group Political Advisor – Russia, Caspian, Middle East & North Africa

The Group Political Advisor plays a key role within their geographic area of operation helping BP understand and respond to the political environment and advise on strategic business decisions on topics such as new country entry or major capital investments.

The role provides analysis, interpretation, advice and guidance to executive leadership on the politics of group- level business decisions & strategies. You’ll also be responsible for providing local teams with operational and strategic advice relevant to political issues. You’ll be able to work with senior executives and external leaders, as well as local teams on the ground, to illuminate and mitigate political risks.

If you can combine a senior-level political, civil service or security background – ideally with some experience in the upstream energy industry – with an understanding of the international political landscape, this is an opportunity to take up a senior position within BP.

Key will be your ability to gather intelligence often from ambiguous data and make evidence-based judgements from this, as will the relationship-building skills to develop links with governments, think tanks, academics, journalists and others in the political arena. A well-developed understanding of the interaction between political issues and their impact on business, ideally a knowledge of your countries and a wide interest in foreign affairs along with strong briefing and drafting skills are needed.
