The Uganda Law Society
(ULS) is a body corporate established by the Uganda Law Society Act
(Cap 276) of 1956 as the representative body of the legal profession.
The Uganda Law Society currently has a membership of over One Thousand
Seven Hundred (1700) advocates. Its mission is to improve the
professional standards of members of the legal profession and to promote
human rights and the rule of law in Uganda by assisting the Government
and the Judiciary in the administration and practice of law for the
benefit of the men and women of Uganda. Avocats Sans Frontiferes (ASF) is an independent international non-governmental organization founded in Belgium in 1992, with the aim of contributing to the creation of equitable societies in which the law and its institutions serve the most vulnerable. ASF has been working in Uganda since 2007 on various projects to enhance access to justice for the vulnerable, including the combating of torture and domestic violence, as well as projects on pre-trial detention and child trafficking. The ULS and ASF have partnered to run a 2-year project whose objective is to work with the legal profession to provide strategic support to access to justice initiatives in Uganda. ULS and ASF therefore seek qualified and experienced individuals to fill the following positions to run the above project. LEGAL AID AND PRO BONO ASSISTANT (1 POSITION)
