Movements.org MANAGING DIRECTOR - New York, NY

Movements.org is a division of Advancing Human Rights, and is a non-profit organization dedicated to identifying, connecting, and supporting grassroots digital activists from around the world. We match members of our global network with necessary resources from the technology, media, private and public sectors in order to help them build capacity.

Movements.org hosts annual summits, regional training events, and an online hub for best practices, lessons learned, discussion and news about the use of new technologies in social movements.

The organization was formed during a December 2008 summit, the Alliance of Youth Movements, that brought together experts in social media with pioneering grassroots movement leaders for the first time in history. Founders of Movements.org include Jared Cohen, Director of Google Ideas at Google, Jason Liebman, CEO and co-founder of Howcast, and Roman Tsunder, co-founder of Access 360 Media.

We are in search of a bright, charismatic, connected leader to manage Movements.org. The right person will have a strong digital background with a passion for human rights and activism. This person will be comfortable interfacing with private and public external partners and have proven leadership experience.

The position is based in New York, NY.


Qualifications


Qualifications:

• Passionate about technology, activism, and social change

• Deep understanding of social media, web 2.0 technologies, and digital strategy

• Must have experience working in a web focused role

• Comfortable interfacing with public and private partners

• Must live in or be willing to relocate to NYC

• Exceptional communication skills

• Strong business and media contacts a plus

• Graduate Degree (Preferred)

• Language Skills (Preferred)

Job Responsibilities:

Operations

o Manage and build Movements.org team

o Report to and liaise with Movements.org’s Chairman and Board of Advisers and Directors

o Execute and iterate on a strategic plan for upcoming year

o Write and manage monthly newsletter

Movements.org Annual Summit

o Hire and manage event coordinator

o Create event agenda based on issues facing international digital activist community

Activist Outreach

o Identify, contact, and build relationships with international digital activists

o Maintain relationships with existing activist network

Editorial/Content

o Identify key trends for blog posts, case-studies, and how-to guides for Movements.org website

o Research and writing

o Pitch Movements.org to media outlets and establish content partnerships
