Senior Environment/Compliance Coordinator AngloGold Ashanti


AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 20 operations in 10 countries on four continents.   AGA employs over 62,000 people globally.  In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine and is developing the Tropicana Gold Mine in which it has a 70% interest and is manager.  Independence Group NL holds the remaining 30%.  The Sunrise Dam and Tropicana operations are both situated in WA.
Tropicana represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade.  The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.45 million ounces over a 10 year mine life (approved project).  Construction began in 2011 and first gold is anticipated in the December quarter of 2013.
We are now seeking an experienced Senior Environment/Compliance Coordinator to join our Sustainability team at the Tropicana Gold Mine.
Accountable to the Manager of the Sustainability Department, this role is based at the Tropicana Gold Mine on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth or Kalgoorlie.
The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of the site "ONE" Management System and related management plans and procedures.
  • Coordinate all site internal and external environmental reporting including statutory compliance reporting to the relevant regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare and submit environmental approvals as required for changes and expansions to the operation in consultation with the Manager and relevant teams.
  • Complete environmental reporting in accordance with the compliance calendar so that the statutory requirements, regulatory instruments, and AGAA internal reporting obligations are met.
  • In conjunction with Safety/Risk Coordinator ensure that all required licenses and approvals remain current.
  • Support the Safety/Risk Coordinator to maintain the Environmental and Compliance Aspects of the Site risk register and monitor that sustainability related remedial action requirements are addressed in the specified timelines
  • Maintain the Environmental and Compliance aspects of Sustainability Department ONE Management system
  • Assist the Manager to maintain a relationship with key government, environmental and community stakeholders
  • Maintain the site environmental facilities and rehabilitation resources (such as seed), to ensure they meet site requirements for effective mine closure and environmental task.
  • Initiate, coordinate and participate in internal and external environmental audits and inspections.
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Tertiary qualified in environmental science or related discipline
  • 5 or more years relevant experience in mining industry in environmental
  • Sound knowledge of the statutory environmental requirements and able to provide competent advice on these requirements.
  • Knowledge of the key relevant government departments in Western Australia
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skill
  • Ability to negotiate and influence the behaviour of others in a manner that achieves the required environmental and compliance outcomes
