Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), is an international non-profit research organization. Based in New Haven, CT, with offices in Washington, D.C. and worldwide, IPA works with development partners and academic researchers to create and evaluate approaches to solving development problems, to communicate “what works” in development and to scale up successful projects in a variety of fields, including health, education, microfinance, governance and agriculture.
Position Summary:
IPA seeks qualified applicants for three posts of Research Associate, based in New Haven, CT.  As a part of the Research Methods and Training unit, IPA’s Data Repository Group provides technical assistance and support for data analysis and data publication on randomized control trials.
The Research Associate positions offer an opportunity to gain first-hand data management experience in an organization undertaking cutting-edge development research. The Research Associates will work closely with academic researchers and other field staff to perform a variety of tasks including (but not limited to) cleaning and analyzing data for multi-country datasets in preparation for data publication on the Data Repository for RCTs in Social Sciences. The Research Associates will play a pivotal role in developing tools and resources for data publication and development of the Data Repository.
Responsibilities:
IPA’s Research Methods and Training unit provides resources, support and oversight of IPA internal systems for high quality research.  Tasks and duties performed by the Research Methods and Training team include:
  • Cross-country coordination of research oversight and survey methods;
  • Advice and guidance for questionnaire design, Stata, data entry, computer assisted interviews, data management, data security, and other field research activities;
  • Sharing resources for survey design, data collection, data entry, data management and data analysis;
  • Leading the design of curricula and logistics for staff training.
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
This is a deadline-driven position; as such, organizational skills, and attention to detail are important.
  • A Bachelor's degree in economics, mathematics or statistics and have experience analysis of household survey data;
  • Knowledge of Stata (strongly preferred) or other data analysis software;
  • Excellent management and organizational skills along with strong quantitative skills;
  • Fluency and excellent communication skills in English;
  • Flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and team player;
  • Familiarity with randomized controlled trials preferred;
  • Experience living in a developing country preferred;
  • U.S. work authorization preferred.
