WWF European Policy Office, Energy Policy Officer

We are looking for an Energy Policy Officer who will be responsible for developing policy, finance, legal and technology approaches to reduce CO2 emissions from the power sector, primarily by promoting EU instruments to limit coal power. The incumbent will liaise with our relevant national office efforts on coal, with the global renewable energy campaign, and with the partners in the Renewables Grid Initiative on electricity grid and market development.

WWF European Policy Office in Brussels, Belgium

Main responsibilities:

  1. Introduce complementary measures in the power sector, in particular an Emissions Performance Standard, during debate on the post-2020 climate and energy package.
  2. Support our international renewable energy campaign to shift investment away from coal, and work with the EPO finance team to win commitments from the EIB and EBRD to stop lending to coal power.
  3. Support LCPD and IED implementation to remain on track with credible compliance approaches.
  4. Refine and advocate WWF positions on Biomass co-firing or retrofits, and CCS.
  5. Advocate changes in electricity markets and grid infrastructure that will facilitate shifts to renewable energy and away from requirements for fossil fuel baseload.

What you need:

  • Understanding of energy policy in Europe
  • Good knowledge of issues related to coal power is preferred
  • Able to work well in a team
  • At least 4 years’ experience in relevant work
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English
