Media Content Analysis Intern

Position Description:
The overall goal of this project is to provide an opportunity for a graduate student to participate in health communication research, specifically using content analysis techniques applied to news media for a large project funded by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The intern will have to:
· Draft data collection and analysis plan including any necessary instrumentation
· Construct database for input of coded material
· Retrieve documents (articles, transcripts, etc.) from LexisNexis database
· Organize documents using a structured system to identify each item
· Read and code media items as part of a team of research staff
· Perform data entry to document coded media content
· Participate in data analysis efforts
· Contribute to report writing summarizing background, methodology, and findings
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors required, Masters preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Some experience and facility with web-based databases. Excellent written communication skills is required. Ability to work independently.
