Position Description

The appointment will be made at a level appropriate to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The appointee will be accountable to the Head of Department of the respective discipline. The appointee is expected to contribute significantly to research and education as well as academic and administrative leadership in the department and school. The specific roles include:-

• Research and Education

1. Actively engage in her or his specialist research area in line with the School’s research strategy by maintaining a substantial active publication record at ISI journals with high-impact factors;
2. Supervise and mentor early career researchers and research students;
3. Play a significant role in research projects including providing leadership to research teams;
4. Foster research excellence through securing competitive research grants and working with other staff to develop research links with industries and/or other institutions locally and internationally;
5. Provide innovative and effective leadership for the expansion of the school’s HDR programs by attracting high quality HDR students;
6. Take a leadership role in the school’s research strengths, where appropriate;
7. Provide strong and committed leadership in teaching and curriculum development;
8. Make a distinguished personal contribution to the teaching program in the relevant discipline at undergraduate and graduate levels;
9. Monitor the quality of teaching in the relevant discipline and proactively maintain it at a high level; and participate in the school’s curriculum planning and development processes, academic committees, and relevant examination processes.


• Leadership and Administration

1. Develop, maintain strong links and make a significant contribution to the profession and external agencies both nationally and internationally;
2. Actively contribute to partnering with industry and diversifying the funding base.
3. Contribute to academic and administrative leadership within the school and participate in the development of policy in the school and University;
4. Perform administrative and coordination duties that are necessary for the effective operation of the programs.

Qualifications

PhD in Chemical Engineering with specialization in catalysis and reaction engineering.

Achievements, qualities, capabilities

• demonstrated ability to provide leadership to the research and education in the respective area ;
• international reputation for outstanding research as shown by a continuous record of publications in ISI Journals with high impact factors;
• record of obtaining external grants for research;
• record of successful supervision of postgraduate research students;
• proven excellence in teaching (at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels); and
• highly developed skills of leadership in establishing networks with industries and professional bodies.
