Australian Embassy Deputy Head Of Mission Administrative & Research Assistant - Paris, France

The position is a permanent full-time position (35 hours per week) and will be available mid-September 2012.

Duty Statement:

  • Provide organisational, administrative, research and policy assistance to Deputy Head of Mission (DHOM)/ UNESCO Permanent Delegate and officers in the Political Section;
    • provide high level secretarial and administrative support;
    • schedule appointments for the DHOM and branch officers, arrange meetings, lunches and other official functions; and
    • assist branch officers organise programs and appointments in non-resident countries of accreditation;
  • Undertake general research/enquiries as tasked by the DHOM and other officers, including assistance with public diplomacy events as required;
  • Translate documents from French into English. Prepare correspondence in English and French as required;
  • Organise visit programs for senior Australian officials and assist with preparation and organisation of Ministerial visits;
  • When required, attend UNESCO meetings and other conferences; draft reports to Canberra and provide summary information;
  • Monitor and report on developments in other countries of accreditation in Africa, including through media and government websites;
  • Serve as back-up to the Ambassador’s PA;
  • Other duties as required.

General requirements:

  • Applicants must be a national of Australia, New-Zealand, America, Canada, or United Kingdom and must be eligible for an Australian Government security clearance. Persons holding dual French nationality with one of the above nationalities would not be eligible for a security clearance for this position. Applications that do not specifically address and satisfy this requirement will not be considered;
  • Applicants must submit a copy of a valid work permit/visa for employment in France. Applications that do not specifically address and satisfy this requirement will not be considered;
  • Fluency in English and French (oral and written) is essential. Applicants being considered for the position may be required to undertake, and if so pass at a high level, oral and written tests in English and French;
  • High level skills in IT systems and internet are essential. Applicants being considered for the position may be required to undertake a test to demonstrate their capacity to use such software.
