Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) monitors, inspects and reports on the efficiency and effectiveness of forces in England and Wales, as well as the Police Service of Northern Ireland and other specified national agencies. We are independent of the Government and the Police Service.

In the past six months, we have published inspection reports on topics ranging from how forces are coping with budget reductions, to the investigation and prosecution of rape cases. Next up, we are looking at stop and search, crime recording and police integrity (among others).

These reports can effect real changes in policing, as well as generating plentiful media headlines – but only if the data they rely on are robust, clear and wholly transparent.

We are looking for more than just an Excel expert. As well as understanding, gathering, checking and interpreting data, you will brief HMIC Board members and senior police officers on your findings, work closely with inspection teams, spot links across different sources, advise on how the information should be shown on our public-facing channels, help shape reports and press releases and champion the transparency agenda.

Location: London, for exceptional candidates there may be an opportunity to be based in our Birmingham or Wakefield offices, however regular travel to London will be required.

The deadline for completed application forms is Monday 1 October 2012. For more information about this opportunity and an application pack, please visit http://www.hmic.gov.uk/ABOUTUS/WORKINGATHMIC/Pages/home.aspx for any further queries please email Recruitment@hmic.gsi.gov.uk
