Sr. Technical Advisor - Iringa , Tanzania

Sr. Technical Advisor will provide technical leadership for the Iringa Combination Prevention study interventions. Working closely with Chief of Party, Programme Director, and technical advisors, Advisor ensures the technical quality of the programme biomedical interventions, supervise the technical team, and work closely with regional, district, ward, and facility officials to ensure that the study is implemented with the highest level of integrity.

The Iringa Combination Prevention Study is a new high-profile multi-year USAID-funded program designed to evaluate the impact of scaled-up evidence-based sexual, biomedical and structural HIV prevention interventions. The MCHIP/Tanzania program, lead by Jhpiego, will oversee the implementation of the interventions associated with this study, including HIV counseling and testing, HIV care and treatment, PMTCT, voluntary medical male circumcision, home-based care, and strategic behavior change communication. MCHIP/Tanzania is therefore seeking to recruit a team of experienced, top-notch medical and public health professionals to lead this exciting new initiative.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as technical lead and overall responsible for quality for HIV prevention and care and treatment activities
  • Ensure synergy and complementarity between MCHIP’s activities and the MOH and other partners’ activities to the extent possible
  • Work closely with program and M&E teams, to ensure continuous monitoring and evaluation of programs and report findings
  • When appropriate, complete required data gathering and report writing on a timely basis
  • Communicate on a regular basis with the MCHIP COP, particularly on project successes, challenges, and best practices
  • Assist counterparts to identify barriers or gaps in program implementation and service delivery and work out solutions and guidelines to address them
  • Conduct or facilitate performance improvement activities including competency based clinical training, transfer of learning, supportive supervision and follow-up to support safety and access to high quality services
  • Write and/or review technical components of materials and publications, as appropriate
  • Collaborate with other donor-funded individuals and programs to build capacity throughout the health system
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with colleagues and donors in country and region
Required Qualifications:
  • Medical degree required; MPH preferred
  • 8+ years demonstrated experience working in one or more areas of biomedical HIV prevention such as HIV care and treatment (required), HIV counseling and testing, PMTCT, home-based care, and/or voluntary medical male circumcision
  • Expertise managing OI interactions, adverse events and related labs required
  • Demonstrated training and mentorship skills
  • In-depth knowledge of current international evidenced-based HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment best practices and specifically with Tanzanian guidelines
  • Experience working on research programs highly desirable
  • Excellent systems management and organizational skills
  • Experience managing a team of 10 or more professional staff
  • Demonstrated self-management (i.e. motivation, dealing with pressure, adaptability)
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills in English and Kiswahili
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% of time
