Desktop Support Analyst 1


This competition may be used to fill more than one position and has an end date of twelve months from the date of hire with a possibility of extension.
Reporting to a Team Lead of the Deskside Support Teams, this position acts as a junior technical administrator for contracted services to campus faculties and departments. The successful candidate will ensure that external campus clients' subsystems operate efficiently and communicate effectively with the campus community.  The successful candidate can look forward to an energetic, professional team environment where there is a commitment to personal and professional growth.
Duties
  • Supports a variety of IT technology including desktop hardware/software; operating systems; applications (MS Office, Sharepoint, PeopleSoft, etc.); networks; and peripherals (printers, scanners, barcode devices)
  • Assists in completing projects with long term implications to both the clients and the University
  • Assists in administering hardware architecture and infrastructure for external clients and faculties on campus
  • Provides technical services and IT Project Management Planning (using ITIL best practices) to external campus clients
  • Provides IT security and information services for campus client departments and faculties
  • Responsible for project implementation of IT systems and networks, IT hardware and software/applications, and access located both within the University of Alberta network environments on main campus and/or downtown campus
  • Provides basic, day-to-day level support to departmental and faculty servers including Active Directory Servers; File Servers; Email systems and Google Apps
  • Records, manages and maintains inventory
  • Configures new equipment and software; creates and maintains documentation
  • Keeps up to date on software and hardware trends in anticipation of user needs; supports new strategic directions with appropriate technology; documents procedures for client support; and assists with performance testing
  • Performs user and security administration; creates or modifies shared network files and folders
  • Performs other related duties as necessary
Qualifications
  • IT Technical diploma; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • Two years experience in a complex environment with many systems providing technological solutions to enhance business practices
  • Microsoft certifications or equivalent experience would be an asset
  • Technical certifications including A+, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated analytical and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, intuitive and empathetic listening skills and presentation skills
