Oxford Global GROW Campaign Manager

Global GROW Campaign Manager
Circa £50,000 pa (gross)
Fixed term contract: March 2013 – March 2014

Oxford
It's not just drought. Or famine. Or a bad harvest. A whole host of other factors, not least climate change and land grabs, are stopping nearly 1 in 8 people worldwide from having enough to eat. Oxfam is working to change this. GROW – our priority public campaign for 2013 – aims to help those living in poverty claim power in the way the world manages land, water and climate so they can grow and buy enough food to eat, now and in the future. With the campaign already being delivered in more than 40 countries, you’ll be working at the heart of one of the major global issues of our time.

The role
In this highly influential role, you’ll lead and shape the development of Oxfam GB’s GROW strategy, and play an active role in its global development and delivery through Oxfam International. Managing a budget of up to £500k and a dedicated team of campaigners and administrators, we’ll look to you to raise the profile of the campaign itself, maximise our fundraising efforts behind it and make sure our focus is closely aligned with issues in the countries and regions that need our support most. Furthermore, because what you do now will have such a big impact for years to come, it’s important that you make sure our GROW strategy continues to build. That means evaluating the ongoing success of campaigns, capacity building and helping to keep everyone pulling in the same direction. The breadth of the role is extensive. But then so are the opportunities that go with it.

What we’re looking for
To meet the challenge, you’ll need a rather special set of qualities. Chief among them will be your practical experience of developing and delivering campaign strategies - ideally relating to environmental issues or economic injustice. Your creative approach to problem-solving and flexibility when it comes to planning and decision-making will enable you to make the most of every new opportunity that comes our way. But you’ll need to combine that spirit of innovation with a practical understanding of lobbying and media work. And that fresh-thinking approach with the confidence and credibility to represent the campaign to a variety of audiences, from the general public to senior government officials. A broad knowledge of campaigning in a global context is obviously a must – you’ll need to understand how your strategy aligns with Oxfam’s broader objectives. And underpinning it all will be your own determination to end poverty and injustice, your passion for life and absolute conviction that everyone in the world should be treated equally.

About Oxfam

A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam. There’s enough wealth in this world to go around. It’s not unfortunate that people live in poverty. It’s unjustifiable. It’s not just their problem. It’s ours too. And with the right support, we can beat poverty and injustice. Thousands of people already commit their time and talents to our campaigning, humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
