Bursar and Chief Financial Officer

Magdalen College was founded in 1458. It is one of the largest colleges of Oxford University, with close to 400 undergraduates and 200 graduate students. The College is governed by 75 Fellows, who sit on the Governing Body under the Chairmanship of the President. The Governing Body now seeks to appoint a Bursar and Chief Financial Officer to play a central role in ensuring the smooth running of the College. As a full member of the Governing Body, the Bursar and Chief Financial Officer will lead the continued development of the College’s financial strategy and the management and care of its assets and resources, including its substantial estates and investment portfolio.
The Role:
  • Responsible to the Governing Body for the overall financial management of the College.
  • Management of the College’s investments and identification of opportunities for value creation, including oversight of the Oxford Science Park.
  • Representative role working on financial matters with the University and counterparts in other colleges through membership of relevant committees.
The Candidate:
  • Senior finance professional, with high intellectual capacity and success in management roles, demonstrating a flexible and sensitive management style.
  • Strategic thinker; energetic and innovative; first-class negotiator, with strong communication skills and an enabling style of working with colleagues.
  • Clear commitment to, and affinity with, the research and teaching ethos of an Oxford college.
