Senior Research Analyst on Cyber Issues
£35,000 + LLA + benefits
Help the UK to lead the world on cyber issues.
The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) is responsible for promoting British interests overseas and supporting British citizens and business around the globe. Cyber has become a business critical area for the FCO, with the National Security Strategy identifying it as a Tier 1 threat. To combat this danger – and to ensure the UK seizes opportunities to promote British interests in this field and retains its reputation as an international thought leader on cyber issues – we need a Senior Research Analyst to provide in-depth, up-to-date knowledge of this new and specialised area.
This is an excellent opportunity to become one of Whitehall’s leading experts on cyber issues, and to inform and influence UK policy. Working closely with the FCO’s International Cyber Policy Unit, you will provide high quality analysis and advice on international cyber issues, based on the latest information and developments. You will build an effective network of external Cyber specialists and ensure we make the most of their knowledge. This means working across many different international organisations and partners, and across the prosperity and security agendas. It’s therefore important that you are able to take a strategic view of developments in the field of cyber and identify the possible impact on government policy and the range of international debates on cyber. In effect, you will be the FCO’s corporate memory on cyber issues, providing judgements and advice based on in-depth expertise informed by historical perspective, knowledge of context and analytical insight.
This is a specialist position that demands broad and extensive knowledge of the broad range of international cyber policy issues, and in particular internet governance. Your expertise should be based on a postgraduate degree or significant experience in an Internet policy area.
Articulate and a natural problem solver, you will have substantial research and analytical skills gained through work experience and/or advanced academic study.

In return, you can expect a range of generous benefits plus the chance to take on a highly rewarding role.
Please note that only British citizens can be considered for this role.
Closing date for applications: 17th July 2013.
